sylvester stallone-2-820x1024The character of Green Beret "John Rambo" was developed by the Canadian author David Morrell, and his novel was brought to the screen with Stallone as the main character in First Blood (1982), which also featured Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. The film, which astonished audiences with its controversial commentary about the Vietnam conflict that was comparatively novel in American consciousness, became undoubtedly a hit. Political viewpoints aside, the film was a worldwide smash, with a sequel following by Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) that drew even stronger criticism in a number of places due to the plot's reference to American MIAs suspected of being detained in Vietnam.
